The Spartanburg Community Band is a concert band made up of mostly amateur musicians from Spartanburg, SC and surrounding areas. Established in 1996 to provide an outlet for community musicians and offer free concerts to the public, the Community Band and its affiliated jazz band, the Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble. Both play for public events-- Spring Fling and special events like the opening of the new Memorial Auditorium and the Pan American Games for the Blind. Our "Ice Cream Sundays" Summer Concert Series in the Rose Garden at USC-Upstate is especially popular. George Wenger directs the Concert band and Dale Burke is Jazz Ensemble Director.
The Concert Band rehearses at the Spartanburg Day School [directions], Tuesday evenings from 7 - 9 p.m. The Jazz Ensemble rehearses Sunday evenings at USC-Upstate -- take a look at the new Jazz Band website. Both bands maintain e-mail groups at Yahoo! Groups so that members can receive rehearsal reminders and keep in touch (see the links at left).
Membership is extended to qualified musicians without regard to race, color, creed, sex, or how long it has been since you played in high school.

Spartanburg Community Band is a tax-exempt organization chartered under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. We are financed by donations from members and friends, including corporate sponsors and a grant from the SC Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
